He earned his bachelor’s degree in media studies from East Stroudsburg University, his master’s degree in mass communication from the University of Delaware and his doctorate in journalism and mass communication from the University of Wisconsin.
Throughout his studies, he served as a teaching assistant to undergraduate and graduate students. While at Delaware, he taught a public speaking course targeted to business majors. Mike spent his four years at Wisconsin teaching courses in writing for print and broadcast media, Web site writing and design, advertising, and mass communications quantitative research methods.
His dissertation, “Social Networks, Mass Media, and Efficacy: Implications for Protest Participation,” was a study of how protest groups used social network ties and different media to engage community members to further the group’s causes.
Immediately following graduation, Mike was hired as assistant professor at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. Here he taught a wide variety of graduate and undergraduate classes, including quantitative research methods, visual communication and studio/video production, a course in which his students produced a weekly live television news program under his guidance.
Mike recently made a move back to his hometown when he was hired as assistant professor at West Chester University in the Philadelphia area and joined the Excalibur Media team. Here he teaches courses in public speaking and video production.

He has a strong background in video/audio editing and television/video production as well as professional and broadcast writing.
Widely published, Mike has had articles appear in several of the top journals in the communication field, including Journal of Communication and Mass Communication & Society. He has also presented his research at numerous communication conferences across the country, such as Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) and International Communication Association (ICA).
During his time teaching, Mike has also stayed active in his research and consulting with various groups, securing several large scale grants to work with organizations in conducting research (including surveys and focus groups) on audience impact of advertising campaigns.
He is especially skilled at working with organizations to determine what their best course of action is in launching an advertising or marketing campaign, as well as working one-on-one with individuals to maximize their impact in a public-speaking setting.
